Install the CLI

The command-line version of Fantasy Pressbox keeps your league in a folder on your computer. It is free and MIT-licensed. These steps are for fantasy-pressbox 0.1.0.

The figure comes from npm and is refreshed once a day. When npm has no count, this says so instead of guessing.

Install

You need Node.js 22 or newer, which comes with npm. There is nothing else to install and no account to create.

Running fantasy-pressbox on its own shows the scoreboard and the steps to a first edition. fantasy-pressbox --help lists every command and option.

Set up a league folder

Each league gets a folder of its own, holding its settings, history and output. init creates it and asks a few questions in plain language. Use any folder name you like.

doctor checks your settings, league config and connection. Then build your first edition with fantasy-pressbox rankings. Run every command from inside the league folder, or add --workspace <folder>.

The weekly routine

Each command writes a prompt into the league folder's output folder. Paste it into ChatGPT or Claude, post the reply, then save that reply to a file and record it. Recording is what lets next week grade your predictions and show who moved.

Copy the AI's reply with the chat's own copy button, not by highlighting it. Highlighting drops the blank lines between paragraphs, so the posts land in Sleeper as one block of text.

Do not skip record. Without it there are no picks to grade, and next week's movement arrows measure against an older ranking. To check a file of posts against Sleeper's length limit, run fantasy-pressbox check <file>.

Optional: let it write the posts

Add --generate to any edition and the CLI calls the AI for you and writes finished posts into the output folder, recording predictions and rankings as it goes. It needs your own API key from Anthropic or OpenAI, added to the league's .env or chosen when you re-run init.

PAID Your AI provider bills you for every --generate run. An API key is a separate developer account, not a ChatGPT Plus or Claude Pro subscription. Pasting the prompt yourself costs nothing beyond the chat account you already have.
